Welcome Home Jonathan Toews!
South St. Vital first-ballot Hockey Hall of Famer Jonathan Toews has signed with the Winnipeg Jets for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Jonathan Toews was the kid in my neighbourhood who went on to become a big star in the National Hockey League. He lived just a few streets over from me in River Park South and even though he was five years older, I remember him playing a few times in some big street hockey games with me and my friends when I was seven or eight. I'll also confess that my buddies and I probably snuck onto his backyard rink a few times in the winter when we didn't have a ride to Dakota Community Centre.
Nicknamed "Captain Serious," the 6'2'' centerman was the instrumental leader of a Blackhawks team that won three Stanley Cup's in six years. There is nothing in the sport of hockey that Toews hasn't won, and he hasn't even reached the age of thirty. In addition to his three Stanley Cup's, he's a two time Olympic gold medalist with Team Canada in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 and has won two World Juniors, and one World Championships.
He's the youngest player ever to join the Triple Gold Club, which is exclusive to those who have won the Stanley Cup, Olympic gold medal and World Championship.
