Winnipeg's Max Labovitch was one of the first Jewish players to play in the NHL when he played five games with the New York Rangers in 1943-44
The middle of three hockey playing brothers, Max Labovitch became the first Jewish player to sign an NHL contract when he joined the New York Rangers as an emergency replacement during the 1943-44 season since many of the Rangers core were overseas fighting in World War II. Although he only played in five career NHL games, Labovitch will always hold a place in hockey history.
