John McCreedy was born in Winnipeg on March 23rd, 1917. Growing up in East Kildonan, he was raised on Washington Avenue and attended Prince Edward Public School, and later Lord Wolseley High School.

Johnny’s father passed away at the age of 49, collapsing while teeing off at the West Kildonan Golf Course. It left John’s mom with seven children and she did her best to raise them all.
