Powerview-Pine Falls’ Bill Watson became the first player from his town to make the NHL when he played for the Chicago Black Hawks in the mid-1980s.
Watson, who was born in 1964, is now 60 years old as he recalls his hockey career from a few decades ago.
“My mom was from Powerview-Pine Falls and Dad was from Saskatchewan,” recalled Bill Watson. “I was born in Pine Falls and raised in Powerview which is a mile south of Pine Falls. I played my minor hockey there and then played for the Beausejour Comets when I was 14. When I was first and second year peewee and first year bantam, we won the provincial championship both in rural and the city, so I started playing for Winnipeg teams and Selkirk teams when I was ten years old.”
